are shapes compound of five square blocks joined by one edge. There are
only twelve different shapes, each shape is named regarding a lettre f,
I, L, n, p, T, U, V, W, X, Y and Z.

name "pentomino" was introduces by Solomon W. Golomb in 1953,
his book Polyominoes (Scribner's, New York, 1965) is a large study of the
subject.
Pentominoes
may be combined to form larger 2D and 3D shapes.
